Discover the AAIP Expression of Interest

Application process to be nominated for any of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) worker streams.

The Expression of Interest (EOI) is the first step in applying to the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). It allows you to express your intent to immigrate and operate a business in Alberta before submitting a full application.

Your EOI provides basic information about your background, business experience, and proposed investment. Once submitted, it is scored and ranked against other candidates in the AAIP pool. Only those who meet program priorities or achieve high scores will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) to submit a complete business application.

Submitting an EOI does not guarantee an invitation or approval, but it’s the essential first step toward Alberta nomination.

Submit your Expression of Interest (EOI) through the official AAIP online portal.
This is not a formal application, but a way to express your intent to apply for a specific stream (such as the Rural Entrepreneur Stream).

You must provide accurate details about your experience, education, investment, and language skills. There is no guarantee of invitation after submission.

Once submitted, your EOI enters the AAIP pool where it is scored based on eligibility factors such as net worth, investment amount, management experience, and community support.

Only candidates who meet minimum criteria are accepted into the pool.
Your EOI remains active for 12 months, and you may submit a new one if it expires.

EOIs are ranked competitively according to AAIP’s scoring grid. Higher scores increase your chance of being selected during draws. Factors such as exploratory visits, job creation potential, or a strong community match can improve your ranking.

Updating your profile with new information may change your score, but false or inconsistent data may result in disqualification.

AAIP conducts selection draws periodically based on current labour market and investment priorities.

Candidates with the highest scores or strongest community matches receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) by email.
Receiving an ITA means you are invited to submit a complete business application, not that you have already been approved.

After receiving an ITA, you must submit a full business application through the AAIP portal within the specified timeframe (usually 30–60 days)

You must upload your business plan, supporting documents, community support letter, and pay the AAIP processing fee.

AAIP will review your file and may request additional information or an interview before making a decision.

If your business application is approved, you’ll receive:

  • A Business Application Approval Letter, and
  • A Work Permit Recommendation Letter to apply for a temporary work permit through IRCC.

You must then move to Alberta, operate your business, and meet all requirements in your Business Performance Agreement (BPA) before being considered for nomination for Permanent Residence.
